Liggen appels broederlijk te rotten in nat gras

dan spreek ik met spreeuwen, zie goddeloze valken bidden

en glooi wanneer de wereld even niet goed oplet.

Het is een mooie dag om de stad te verloochenen,

de kat te ontgoochelen en alles door een horizonnebril

gade te slaan. Even m'n kamp opslaan

en hier nog doodtevreden blijven hangen,

tot de grom van een schaduw me bevuilt.

De stad belt maar ik neem niet op.

 

 

Ballonnenvrees 26 november 2022

Voor een laatste keer dit jaar vreesden we nog eens de ballonnen in Café Boekowski. En het werd een editie voor in de geschiedenisboeken!

Gert Vanlerberghe opende kort met enkele NovemberVers-gedichten. Vervolgens las Vera Steenput een erotisch kortverhaal terwijl Tom Driesen 'Child in time' van Deep Purple keihard door zijn boombox liet klinken. Chaise longue in de orangerie, kaasschotel erbij. Schuur en Steppenwolf spreken af. En dan ging alles in crescendo. Door de heavy metal werd het verhaal nog gejaagder. De supersnelle gitaarsolo was de soundtrack voor stomende seks en net als de klassieker uit 1970 eindigde het verhaal weer idyllisch. Een verrassende performance! Vervolgens haalde ze Tom Driesen erbij voor een ware battle. Zo stonden twee Belgische kampioenen tegenover elkaar, twee reuzen van de podiumpoëzie, twee Kakdichters, twee Zeefdichters. De woke barbiepop versus de lieve action man. In hun woordenstrijd verscheen ook Gust Peeters, de G.I. Joe van de poëzie. Dan was het aan Tom, die opende met een literaire goocheltruk. In zijn datadatentoverwereldtekst tttimmerde hij Tttinder in elkaar. En wat is 'huidhongerdetectie' een mooi woord. Zijn 'vloeibare tekst' was zo mogelijk nog straffer. Hij sloot zijn vlammende set af achter de piano, met een vrije hertaling van Leonard Cohens 'Hallelujah'.

Terwijl Stijn Charpentier zijn gitaar stemde, vertelde Gert over de Kakdichters en las hij een van Toms kakgedichten voor. Vanuit het publiek bracht ook Vera nog een kakgedicht van zichzelf. Dan was het aan singer-songwriter Stijn Charpentier, ondertussen ook al zo'n slordige 20 jaar met muziek bezig en een graag geziene gast op Ballonnenvrees. De meezingers volgden elkaar op: 'Breek de gewoontes', 'Reddingsboei', 'Huiskatdag'... Maatschappijkritische teksten verpakt in retecatchy refreinen, dat is zijn handelsmerk. Zo deelde hij zijn bezorgdheid over de vluchtelingen, koetjes en kalfjes en de planeet. Van de pakkende afsluiter 'Geen plaats' kregen we kippenvel en vleesschaamte tegelijk. Altijd een hoogtepunt, deze man.

Na de pauze kregen we van Antony Samson het apocalyptische gedicht 'Plaag': de mens als nuloperatie. Volgden nog het waanzingedicht 'Pitbull', de herwerkte klassieker 'Leegstand', 'Sluitingstijd', het erotische drieluik 'Dag en nacht' en 'Ondanks alles'. Ook van het ijzersterke 'Wachterkamer' werden we niet vrolijker, al had hij even goed luchtige teksten bij, zoals 'Koffiebar', de perfecte schets van een hipster. Femke van Grootel deelde 'Zaterdag' met ons, een gedicht over een buitendate, met 'rosé uit lauwe tassen'. Ze haalde ook poëtisch uit naar Fernand Huts. Vervolgens het bekoorlijke 'Zwemvest' en 'Als ik een boek was', een stoet van letters. Terwijl Hozo zijn laptop aan de praat probeerde te krijgen, deed Reinier een shoutout naar het toilet van Café Boekowski. Maar hij bleek nog veel meer tijd te moeten vullen want technische problemen zorgden voor heel wat vertraging. Uiteindelijk kregen we een vette show van het rappersduo, met psychedelische visuals. Met 'Weerwolf' nam Reinier ons mee in een theatrale performance met zijn gekende slome trap. Ook met 'Darkk' en 'We koken fresh' werd het nog een donker dan weer wazig feestje.

"Verleren is het nieuwe deren", aldus Can Dogan op de open mic, die ook nog een erotisch gedicht bracht. Van Mia Terra mochten we drie Engelse gedichten in ontvangst nemen. Marlena las het wervelende 'Droommeisje', waarin zowel atavisme als Félicien Rops de revue passeerden. En wat een zin, zeg: "God zou blij zijn met een vrouw als ik." Daarna Tim Albus en zijn dertigersdipje: hij vond minutenlang zijn tekst niet. Sven de Swerts, de Trent Reznor van de Kempen, zette zich achter de piano. Ook Joran Simoens had een pianist bij. Hij las een spraakmakend verhaal voor. En waarom niet gewoon deze avond - en dit Ballonnenvreesjaar - afsluiten met alweer een battle? Tom daagde Femke uit voor een taalstrijd waar de woordvonken van af spatten, onder meer door Toms typische boekentitelimpro's, waar Café Boekowski natuurlijk de juiste plek voor is.

Jullie waren het hele jaar door een fantastisch publiek, weten jullie dat? Eindelijk voelde het weer als een volwaardig Ballonnenvrees-jaar, ook al waren er 'maar' zeven edities in 2022. Dat zullen we goedmaken met maar liefst drie edities in de eerste twee maanden van 2023, maar meer daarover later. Op 14 januari staan we alvast weer in Café Boekowski, inclusief open mic, graag tot dan!

Flavours of the month

One final Flavours of the month list before we start looking back on 2022. Algiers is still not planning of letting go, with both singles at high positions, one still at the top. verdwaald in treurig duister.

 

Attention! Travaux!

 

In opengebroken straten

valt geen poëzie te rapen.

 

Maar voor het rood licht hoor ik

ze al vol vuur uit een autoradio,

 

en van achter het stuur zingt een uitgelaten

koppel mee vol trots uit volle borst.

 

Je vous parle d'un temps...

 

Dat contrast, dat daar bombastisch

uit dat open raam weerklinkt,

 

daarin schuilt zowaar zomaar

la sacrée poésie ardente.

Mijn Tijdloze 2022

November is traditioneel ook de tijd van het jaar waarin ik Mijn Tijdloze post. Dit jaar pak ik het helemaal anders aan en in plaats van mijn 600 favoriete nummers ooit post ik mijn 300 lievelingsnummers, met slechts één nummer per band. Soms is dat een van de grootste hits (Tool, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin), soms een weinig bekende albumtrack (Sigur Ros, R.E.M., The Mars Volta). Er is ook een afspeellijst en die gaat van 300 naar 1.
